Why Is Transformation So Difficult?

Have you ever tried to adopt a good habit into your life or get rid of bad one? After several days or weeks of trying, you find yourself giving up. I often ask myself “why is it so difficult to make a change in my life?” I know much research has been done on this topic and many methodologies have been developed over the years, but to date, there are thousands of people and companies that have tried to improve without results. In my 22 years of working with clients, I have seen many organizations try and fail multiple times. I have seen people’s frustrations when trying to improve only to do worse than before they began. The lack of wanting to transform is not the issue. Based on my own observations, everything boils down to our "Thinking". You see, our thoughts drive what we do, and if we don't change our thoughts, we will never change our actions. It is simple as that. At the age of 17, I made a decision that would forever change my life. I established a personal relationship with Christ and began to learn more about God and His purpose for my life. He is so clear about what we need to do in order to achieve transformation. In the book of Romans chapter 12 verse 2, the apostle Paul clearly states "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be TRANSFORMED by the renewing of your mind,..." NKJ. But what does "renewing of your mind" mean? It means changing the pattern of our thoughts. It means infiltrating our mind with new thinking that will lead to new thoughts and new actions. I remember watching the movie City Slickers where Jack Palance is telling Billy Cristal about the secret of life, and says "It is about this one thing." For my life, "this one thing" has been my personal relationship with Christ. He has given me the ability to transform myself by the renewing of my mind. My new thinking focuses on a bigger purpose rather than self. You see my friend, "self" is the cause of all the misfortune in this world. The cause for ruined lives, ruined businesses, ruined dreams, ruined..., you fill in the blank. What about you? Do you find your self pondering on "this one thing." What is the secret of life?
